Pre-filled Rock Rolls
Rock Rolls are robust, permanent revetments designed for use around reservoirs, shorelines, lake edges, streams, and riverbanks. They offer a flexible, cost-effective, and sustainable alternative to traditional rock armour, riprap, or gabion systems in a wide range of scour protection applications.
Pre-filled with small graded stone, Rock Rolls provide instant erosion protection, particularly below low water level, where pure bioengineering solutions may be less effective. When joined together, Rock Rolls can form Rock Mattresses capable of withstanding high flow velocities and shear stresses up to 1200 N/m², making them ideal for high-energy river environments.
Key Benefits
-
Flexible & Durable: Conform naturally to uneven ground and resist movement under hydraulic loading.
-
Habitat Creation: The small stone size promotes silt deposition and creates niche habitats that quickly support submerged, marginal, and emergent vegetation.
-
Vegetation Compatible: Can be fully vegetated over time, something not possible with large riprap or concrete armour.
-
Eco-Engineering Integration: When combined with Coir Rolls, Coir Pallets, or live willow, Rock Rolls form hybrid systems that enhance biodiversity, supporting invertebrates and even native crayfish populations.
Developed through extensive research and field application, Salix Rock Rolls offer a proven, sustainable solution that works with natural processes to stabilise banks, reduce erosion, and restore healthy aquatic habitats.
