Pre-established Coir Rolls

Our Coir Rolls are a natural, sustainable solution for erosion control and rapid vegetation establishment along lake edges, streams, and riverbanks.

Manufactured in the UK using Grade A, organically produced coir fibre from the husk of coconuts, these rolls provide an 80% lower carbon footprint compared to imported pre-formed alternatives.

Salix are the UK’s only manufacturer and largest grower of pre-established Coir Rolls, allowing complete control over quality, availability, and specification. Each roll is tubular in shape and typically supplied in 3m lengths, with diameters ranging from 0.20m to 0.30m.

At our nursery, rolls are planted with native wetland species and grown outdoors in wetbeds to develop hardy, mature plants with established root systems. This ensures high survival rates and strong in-situ performance.

  • Pre-established Coir Rolls are ideal for creating marginal vegetation and stabilising banks, while providing immediate ecological and aesthetic benefits.

  • Unplanted Coir Rolls offer a biodegradable, organic revetment for erosion control, check dams, silt management, and peatland restoration projects.

We offer standard native plant mixes available year-round, or custom species combinations contract-grown for specific site conditions and habitat requirements. For peatland and smaller-scale restoration, Mini Coir Rolls provide a low-carbon, fully biodegradable option.

Independent research by Brighton University and the Environment Agency has demonstrated the success of coir roll revetments in enhancing biodiversity, particularly for water vole habitat creation. Coir rolls offer excellent cover, encourage breeding colonies, and improve riparian habitat quality, a proven nature-based solution for conservation and mitigation projects.
