Pre-established Coir Pallets
Our Pre-Established Coir Pallets provide a natural, sustainable solution for stabilising and restoring the edges of lakes, rivers, streams, and wetlands.
Made from high-quality coir fibre, a renewable by-product from coconut husks, they form an organic living revetment that delivers immediate vegetation cover, erosion control, and biodiversity enhancement.
Salix are the UK’s only manufacturer and leading grower of pre-established coir products, enabling full control over quality, availability, and specification. Each pallet is densely planted at our wetland nursery and grown outdoors for 6–12 months to produce a hardy, mature vegetation cover ready for instant installation and performance. We offer standard native plant mixes available year-round, or custom species combinations contract-grown for specific site conditions and habitat requirements.
Applications
- Habitat Creation & Mitigation
- Reedbed & Wetland Establishment
- River & Stream Restoration
- Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS)
- Lakes, Ponds & Shorelines
- Saltmarsh & Intertidal Areas
Key Benefits
- Instant Performance: Delivers immediate vegetation and erosion protection; can be installed year-round (subject to water levels).
- Erosion Control: The dense plant root stabilises soils and slows local water flow, reducing erosion and sediment loss.
- Enhanced Water Quality: Acts as a natural biofilter, trapping sediment and supporting bioremediation through wetland plant activity.
- Carbon Neutral & Sustainable: Coir is a carbon-sequestering natural fibre; Salix’s UK-based production further reduces carbon footprint.
- Biodiversity Gains: Provides excellent habitat for water voles, birds, amphibians, invertebrates, and fish.
- Flexible Installation: Lightweight, modular design for easy handling and installation using biodegradable fixings
