Croxton Nursery

The home of our native wetland plants & coir production

Since 2005, Croxton Nursery has grown from a single site into more than twenty acres of dedicated native wetland plant production. Located in Norfolk, our site now supplies millions of robust native plants grown from UK sourced native seed for habitat projects across the country. Our investment in state of the art polytunnels, automated systems and purpose-built wetbeds enables us to deliver consistently healthy high performing plants that establish quickly and thrive.

At Croxton, we cultivate a wide range of wetland, marginal and aquatic species alongside pre-planted coir rolls, pallets and mattresses that are established in our outdoor wetbeds to replicate natural growing conditions. This ensures that our coir products arrive on site fully rooted ready to install and capable of stabilising banks and supporting biodiversity immediately. Working closely with our sister company British Flora, we also offer bespoke contract growing, specialist seed mixes and tailored planting solutions for specific habitats or restoration goals.

This accreditation demonstrates that Salix nursery operations meet the rigorous technical and operational standards of the Plant Health Management Standard ensuring that every plant leaving Croxton is traceable, disease-free and grown to the highest professional standards.

Research and development are at the heart of how we grow. Our ongoing work focuses on improving the germination of difficult to cultivate native species, refining sustainable growing practices and reducing the overall carbon footprint of our production. We were among the first native nurseries in the UK to become 100% peat-free and we continue to trial and develop new compost blends that balance performance, sustainability and soil health.

We’re equally committed to reducing plastic use across our operations. While many nurseries still rely on single-use trays and pots, Salix has developed its own range of reusable alternatives designed and moulded specifically for the native wetland species we grow. This innovation saves hundreds of tonnes of single-use plastic each year and improves handling and growing conditions for the plants, supporting our wider sustainability goals.

Automation plays an important role in improving plant health and efficiency. From the automated setting of seed into reusable trays, through the nursery growing process and even into automated field planting, this technology improves production while reducing energy use and carbon emissions. These systems not only improve consistency and quality but also allow us to scale production to meet national demand without compromising our environmental commitments.

Croxton Nursery represents the complete integration of science, sustainability and horticultural expertise. Every process from seed selection to delivery is managed in house ensuring traceability, efficiency and quality at every stage. Our clients benefit from plants that are strong, healthy and ready to perform alongside the assurance that their products are grown responsibly, with measurable carbon and waste reductions.
