Locke Park Lake had become silted to the point that it could no longer be safely used for boating. Salix were employed as main contractor to de-silt the lake and construct a new section of weir and a gabion basket silt trap at the lake inlet.
The silt was transported in sealed lorries to another council owned amenity site for reuse as a landscaping medium.
The lake was slowly de-watered and over-pumped to prevent any downstream migration of silts into the adjacent nature reserve.
A gabion basket silt trap and bypass channel was created at the head of the lake and a drop board weir constructed at the outlet to help with the long term management of the lake.
